Even Worse Than the T-Virus! It's.....an Ad!

Today I received a strange little email from Xbox Live telling me to simply "Trust in the Coalition of Ordered Governments." It was an ad for Gears of War. It had a "secret" message in it, that i was to "decode". The message was made up of links that will send you to a promotional website for GoW, with the word 48hrsexclusiveaccess in it. What does that mean? Why should I care about "Marcus Fenix". Surprise! You have just fallen into a viral ad. I am really beginning to hate these things. I did go to the GoW site, and I did watch the videos, and I was actually impressed by the game, it's potential, and the scope of its story. However, I just wanted to clarify some things for all you potential marketing gurus out there. Viral ads are not clever. Viral ads are stupid little games on par with those Find-a-Word games we all played as children on boring road trips. They are fifth grade exercises that are designed to give you a false sense of accomplishment, and people somehow associate that feeling with a product. After going to the site I am more excited about this game, but not because I was able to find your secret little message. Please stop trying to be clever.
